Exploring Glasgow
Our favorite thing about travel is exploring a city. Not necessarily hitting up all the “touristy” spots, but we often find ourselves simply strolling through neighborhoods – just living in the moment and going wherever the urge strikes us. The weather was a bit chilly and often sprinkling a bit of rain, but Glasgow was a great place to explore.
While checking out city centre, we visited the beautiful (and free), twelfth-century Glasgow Cathedral. It was the most beautiful and well-preserved cathedral we were able to visit while in Scotland.
We also enjoyed walking along the River Clyde, which has some very cool bridges. The Clyde Arc bridge (aka “Squinty” bridge):
The first three nights in Scotland, we stayed with couch surfing hosts in East Kilbride, a suburb southeast of city centre. We spent a bit of time checking out the small city centre there, which was a nice, quiet town.

For the weekend, we opted to stay in a hostel in Glasgow’s West End. We really enjoyed the West End, which feels much like a college town given its proximity to Glasgow University. Ashton Lane is a hidden gem: a tiny cobble stone lined road with a slew of hopping restaurants and pubs. We definitely recommend finding it when you’re in Glasgow:
